The purpose of the American Economy
In "the purpose of the American Economy" According to Annie Leonard, she is telling us that The United states don’t care about how much waste is created or how many chemicals are exposed to people or the planet. All they care about is money. I agree with ms Leonard because all the government wants is for us to think that if we don’t shop then the economy or the country is not going to do well financially, but what the government is not thinking about is how people are going to pay to purchase this products. They don’t care if we have money or jobs to be able to pay bills.

The ultimate purpose in the American economy should be to for the government to create good paying jobs. The government and many of the companies don’t care about how much money we make weekly, or how many bills we have to pay. In my opinion what should be the ultimate porpuse in this country is for us to be able to aford our bills ane live confortably in america. That should be the ultimate purpose, but for the government what really matters is how much we really spend. Forty percent of waterways in the US have become undrinkable, there are 100.00 synthetic chemicals in commerce today and in the U.s alone industries admit to releasing over 4 billion pounds toxic chemicals a year, but none of these facts matter, "money" is their number one priority.

the economy is very important for the government and the American citizens. however the goverment should pay more attetion to the people who are helping this economy get stronger,if we don't have money to be able to afford to shop then that means we dont have enough money to spend. President eisenhower's council advisor chairman said that the ultimate purpose was to produce more goods. In my opinion tha's a selfish statement. My father is unemployed at the momment, when we had a job he used to shop at target, he used to buy jeans, dvd movies and music cd's very often, but now he has no job he is "laid off". At this time he can not worry about the american economy because the government is not crating jobs for the American people.

“Mom. Dad, buy the broccoli”, “Bottled water is safer than tap water”, and “Fat Land” in my opinion are the best three essays I consider are my best work in class , because I was able to develop and understand better when it came to writing an essay.

My experience working online was “great” I was able to learn how to apply commas, how to quote and express myself better. I learned things that I didn’t know how to do before when writing an essay. Writing eighteen blogs was helpful because as time went by I was able to put together an essay that makes sense faster, I can also say that working and reading blogs from other students was helpful because, that help me come with better ideas when I write my blogs. I did get the impression that some of the students were reading  my blogs, because once in a while I will see a comment or two about a blog that I wrote.

The lesson that I take from this class is that, whatever I start I should finish, because writing blogs at the beginning was very difficult by making my best effort I was able to finish all of them. Over all this class was “interesting and fun”. My most memorable moment in class were the videos that we used to watch because every time I will see one I will learn something new. If I had a recommendation to a student I will just tell he or she to take it, because Professor X was fun and very helpful in Eng 099.

Fighting The system.

In sleep dealer “fighting the system” to Memo it means in my opinion that he is trying to fight for everyone in the U.S.A and Mexico to be equal, he is trying to make sure that no one should die ever again over something simple as “water”. His father was killed over it.  He came to the  to the United States to help fight and destroy the block, so that his family in Santa Anna Del Rio can have water running back just like the old days.

After Rudy apologized to Memo for killing his father, both Memo and Rudy were able to make a plan to destroy the wall that was stopping Memos friends and family from getting free water. Rudy was helping Memo because he felt that he was brained washed by the government, and The reason Memo wanted to do it in “memory of his father” and also because he felt that he was doing the right thing. At some point in the movie he was angry at himself; this wasn’t just a regular fight for Memo. This was more about the people that come to this country and give everything they have just to be able to help their families back home.

In my opinion I think Memo is asking us to join in the fight with him and because what his trying to tell us is that everyone should be equally respected and appreciated for the hard work that we do for this country. things that can be gained is respect from people because what he is doing is standing up for himself and show the people that he is not an “American” but he is a very big part of this country, he also wants to tell us that a lot of people that serve this country are immigrants, some are born in the United states but come from different backgrounds just like Rudy.

The new industrial migrants (part 1)

In the article fast food nation by Eric Schloser he explains that a large number of immigrants  from Mexico, Central America and south Asia are traveling to rural Colorado to find jobs at meatpacking factories for the a basic pay of $9.25 an hour. These are jobs that that are paying less then what they used to pay forty years ago, the reason why is because people working at  this slaughterhouses cannot speak or write English and therefore they have no choice but to take whatever is offered to them. These immigrants  share rooms in motels, sleep on mattresses and some live in batter old trailer a few miles from the slaughterhouse. There is an annual turnover of 400 percent in these factories, many of them quit or get fired every three months, They have no union to represent them, in order for them to get insurance they will have to work over six months to get it and over a year for vacation pay, but most won’t get any because they will quit or get fire before that time comes. Beef companies in Greely love that because they are saving money and won’t have to deal with unions. If a employee quits or gets fired all they have to do is replace the old one with with a new one.

The new industrial migrants (part2)

Congra beef is one of the companies that are trailblazers in migrant labor, this is one of many companies in the united states that are taking advantage of many immigrants that are coming to the united States to look for jobs. These companies have a recruiting team that have hired people to put them to work in their factories, but many times they lie to them by promising rental apartments and steady work, but what the immigrants received instead is a shelter and no health insurance, many times these immigrants have no choice but to accept that is being offered to them do to the fact that they don't speak English and they don't know their rights, Congra beef has even hired buses to import workers and refugees from different parts of the united states (new York, new jersey and asylum seekers from Laos and Bosnia). they even promote these jobs in Mexico. Immigration estimates that about on quarter of all meat packing workers in Iowa and Nebraska are illegal immigrants but Congra beef, deny this claim saying that they only hire legal people to work.

Migrant labor

Migrant labor in the United states has become one the biggest problems in USA, people from all over the world are migrating to do jobs that are very dangerous and many times  without vacation pay or sick days or any union to represent them.

Restaurants, construction jobs, slaughterhouses are some of the many jobs that people that come to this country are doing. One of the main reason is because they dont have legal documentation to work

Mom, dad, buy the broccoli

In " mom, dad, buy the broccoli" companies are being forced to change the way they sell or promote junk foods for kids under 12 years of age. The reason these companies want to change their advertising is because companies are beginning  to notice that obesity and diabetes in kids is becoming a serious issue. A group called food and beverage advertising initiative was hired to help 10 companies change the way they advertise their products , but Mr Michael Jacobson, executive director for center for science in the public interest calls this effort "pretty pathetic." I agree with Mr Jacobson, because all these companies all they want to do is find a better way to sell their products without being policed by the government.

Companies like Mcdonals, Coca cola, Hersheys, are beginning to change the way they advertise their products because they have seen that people are starting to blame them and are starting to complain about the increase of diabetes and obesity in kids under 12. this is the reason companies like Mcdonals are introducing salads or kids meals that contain apples or carrots instead of French fries. A company like coca cola or Pepsi are aware that their drinks are very sweet and contain "a lot of calories", that is the reason they have introduced to us "coke 0 calories" to make us believe that they care about the customer, but in reality all they care about is their profits, this is why food and beverage advertising interactive was hired to help them change the way they "sell or promote" their products to the customer.

In my experience deal with "junk foods"  when i was younger this used to be a serious problem for me and one on my friends, when my friend Edwin and my self were younger we used to eat lots of candy, we used to go to Mcdonals almost everyday, It was "paradise." we used to buy the "big Mac" with fries and a large soda once we were done with our "great meal" we will go to the store and buy candy bars or any "kind of sweets" , although we were very thin, we didn't realize that by eating all this "junk" we were doing a lot of harm to our bodies. My mom took me to the doctor for a check up and that is when I found out that my sugar and cholesterol level was very high. I was told to stop eating "junk foods" and start eating "healthier foods" if I didn't want to develop diabetes.

Junk foods in my opinion are very dangerous. Parents and the government should be more aware of what all these companies are selling to kids, parents should start asking their kids how they spend their allowance, the government should start to fine companies that do not want to help reduce obesity and diabetes in young kids. General Mills and other companies, should know that hiring advertising companies is not enough, they should make better efforts. they should help stop all these "diabetes" and stop making "pathetic efforts."

It is possible to for me and my family to avoid foods products that make health claims, because most of the time these products have been highly processed and they are not good for us. also we can start shopping at the farmers market because they offer fresh "organic" products.

In my opinion it will be hard for me and my family to follow some of Pollan’s ideas because it is very hard to change peoples habits. One of the hardest things will be to start shopping at the farmers market, because there aren't many available around my neighborhood, therefore we wont have no choice but to go to the regular supermarket and buy the items we need, also when we need to buy something urgently and the first choice will be to purchase whatever is near around me. Some "organic markets" are far and this will make it difficult for us to stick to "fresh products" Also prices have a big influence on people when it comes to eating healthier, many products like milk, tomatoes, vegetables, etc..,  are very expensive and we won’t be able to afford to get everything “organic” and we won’t have no choice but to buy the product that is cheaper .

Some of Pollan's ideas that are impossible for us to do right now as a family is to be able to plant a garden in our apartment, because we don't have the space or the time to take care of it .Another impossible thing is to be able to eat lots of vegetables in restaurants, because many restaurants all they offer is "junk foods" like burgers, fries and chicken fingers and when they do offer these "greens" (vegetables), sometimes they are not fresh or haven't been properly cleaned.

“Bottled water is safer than tap water”

It’s believed that “bottled water is safer than tap water” because people think that it comes from a special island or factory, but what people don’t realize is that tap water its the safes because is regulated by the EPA and FDA. In my opinion I disagree with this myth because what companies are trying to do is make us “scare” by saying that drinking tap water is going to make us sick and carries germs .

There is a big completion out there, companies like Fiji or Poland spring are trying to makes us believe that tap water is not “safe to drink.” In my experience from drinking tap water I have never gotten sick or had any issues. Every time I go to the gym I drink "tap water", I drink it all the time when I’m having dinner or when I’m at work or a restaurant, even Michael Bloombeg the mayor of New York city has said it many times “tap water is safe to drink” because is tested regularly and is “affordable” in order words is “free”.  Why not listen to a man that has made billions of dollar, plus he is running one of the best cities in the United states.

To help debunk this myth further I can try to encourage friend and family to stop buying bottle water and drink more tap water.  I can also show them the video “the story of the bottled water”  to see if they can stop supporting this water companies and maybe safe money and more importantly safe the environment.

                                                          Fat Land

When reviewing "fat land" Elizabeth kolbert reports that, we are getting "fatter" because companies/ vendors are trying to attract customers by selling larger meals. I agree with the report because many restaurants and movie theaters nowadays offer super "sized meals" for a cheap price, some restaurants also offer the buy one get one free drink or meal.

New York City is full of movie theaters, where most of them offer the "jumbo size" meal. Mr David wellerstein had a lot of success when he introduced it in his movie theaters in the early nineteen sixties, now a board of directors for McDonald. He has also helped introduce the same value meals and is also a success. People instead of buying regular small meals weather is McDonald's, Chinese food, or drinks at the bar, people very often rather pay fifty cents more and get the super sized meal or the buy one get one free drink. I can also say that I take part in buying this, specials because for example: if I go to the movie theaters with friend or family we always buy the super sized nachos or nuggets or if we go to a bar we will get four drinks instead of two.

Bars and restaurants have many ways to make the customer spend money and one of them is by offering big meal for a small amount of money and many times this meals are not healthy for the body, but we continue to eat it and support it. Reason why? is because we think we are being offered a good deal. As Mr wallerestein said it "they don't want to eat two bags and we don't want to look like gluttons" so instead of looking like "gluttons" what we do is we get the bigger meal when we are placing our order.

The Meatrix

In the Meatrix Moopheus ask leo if he knows about the Meatrix. Leo responds that he doesn’t. Moopheus offers Leo a blue pill or red pill. Leo takes the red pill, after he takes it, he starts to find out how other animals are being treated in other farms. Moopheus shows Leo how corporations are taking over by creating pollution and destroying communities and most importantly it shows him about how animals are being treated. Leo asked him how to stop all this animal cruelty , so Moopheurs responded by not supporting this factories.

The Meatrix: Revolting

In the meatrix Revolting moopheus congratulates Leo because he sees that people are buying more organic products, but warns him that more needs to be done. Once in the factories Leo goes on to find out that cows and chickens are living in very unhealthy conditions. Moopheus tells Leo and chickity, that farms are not what they used to be. Now "machines milk the cows" and Very often the animals are sick despite daily use of "antibiotics" and also mentions that many diseases can be spread like "mad cow disease" and factories are "over using antibiotics and artificial hormones" and tells us that in order to help the meatrix we should support small family factories.

The Meatrix 2 1/2
In the Meatrix 2 1/2 the agent tell Moopheus that the factory process 5000 cows per day to be able to feed the fast food nation, then later Moopheus tells the agent that the factory has very dangerous working conditions, workers are getting injured and that there is manure in the meat. The agent responds "profit is the name of the game" and that the workers are "expandable". The main point in this movies is that companies don't really care about the conditions of animals or employees, all they care about is "profit."

Imitation of film: Here’s smoking at you kid

In a study done by Dr. James D. Sargent, he explains that children ages 10 to 14 are more likely to smoke. The reason is because kids that age are more likely to follow and do stuff that adults do, specially when parents are letting their kids watch "R-rated movies." This movies can encourage kids to smoke. I agree with Mr. Sargent because at that age all kids want to do is “look cool” in front of their friends or as they say " monkey see monkey do".

In nationwide survey according to the pediatrics report. Thirty eight percent of children who begin to smoke between the ages of ten to fourteen years of age, have seen many R-rated movies. In my opinion thirty eight percent is a very high number and if a movie is encouraging kids to smoke. This means that kids can easy be influenced to have sex and do drugs at an early age. This is a very serious issue, if not corrected it can have a serious effect towards their future,

Parents should get more involved with what teenagers watch or whom they let their kids hanging out with, because if not it can lead to what happened to my friend Edwin. When my friend Edwin was thirteen years old, he was influenced by stuff that he was watching. A lot of it was "R-rated movies", he was  so influenced by the movie "Scarface" and specially the character played by Al Pacino, "Tony Montana". All  my friend wanted to do is talk and walk like "Tony Montana." at some point he started to wear similar clothes as Tony Montana. As time went by he began to smoke , drink and he stared to have sex at the age of fifteen, he was getting into a lot of trouble. Suddenly one day he came to ask me for advise because he told me that a "gang member" wanted to fight with him, but Edwin didn't understand why? so I told him that the rumor in school was that he was acting like this "big gangster" and that people didn't like the way he was acting and that this gang member wanted to teach him a good lesson to see how is more "gangster." after we finished the conversation he understood that trying to do stuff that he saw in a movie or become someone he wasn't was going to bring him problems, he told me all he wanted to do is look "cool" and be "accepted" by older people.

“association should be taken very seriously.” Parents need to get involved in the in the life of their children, specially between the ages 10 to 14 years of age. If not taken very seriously it can have a very negative impact in their life. To avoid this problem Parents should reconsider what their kids are watching, specially when it comes watching an R-rated movies.

Does knowledge make you happier?
The benefits of learning new things in my life is that when a new challenge comes around it will be easy to solve it. I can agree with Cornell and Malcolmson’s article because Learning new things means that you have to put time and a big effort to be able to understand and fix a problem. In the Matrix Neo wanted to learn if he is the “one” so what he did is learn all the things that Morpheus wanted to teach him. One of them was to be able to free his mind to be able to do and learn all the other obstacles that he was going to face. Many times putting the time and effort is very difficult because not  everyone want to go to a classroom and read and do all the homework that needs to be done in order to learn. just like fixing a car, In order to be able to fix a car I will have to go to school and learn all there is to be learned about the engine, transmission and all the other parts about a car, without the knowledge it will be very difficult to fixed it.

The downsides and pains of new knowledge is that wanting to learn how to fix a car, wanting to learn how to fix a computer or wanting to find out if someone is truthful to a person could be painful. Sometimes when you learn something new then you realize that it is not something you wanted to learn or find out, and that can have a big impact in your life.  For example my friend thought that his girlfriend was cheating on him, what he did next is he went to a private investigator and ask him to find out all this information about his girlfriend. Once the investigator came back with all the pictures and all the information, my friend was very “hurt.” Before the investigator he was 90 percent sure that his girlfriend was having an affair but he chose to have proof and that’s when he had just realized that knowing the truth really hurts or it wasn’t worth it.

In the long run learning the truth is very important to me because it will open up my mind to accept it the way it comes at me. good news or bad news is always better to know .

Red pill or blue?
If I was asked to take between the red and the blue pill I would choose the red pill because I would like to find out if I’m mentally strong like Neo.
Neo took the red pill because he knew that something was wrong in his life and by taking the pill he wanted to discover what was behind it. Neo found out that he wasn’t an ordinary man, he was a fighter.  He was a person that was able to learn and discover the truth about who he was, no matter how good or bad it was. That will be the reason why I would like to take the red pill. By taking the red pill to me it will mean that I will have to find out if I have challenges that I'm not ready. Sometimes when we take risks at doing things that we don't know at times the result can be a very positive outcome.

Fate or free will?
I think Neo became the one by his actions. His fate made him believe in himself. He became very strong minded. he wanted to help his friends to battle the agents and he also wanted to learn things that he thought he wasn’t able to.
Everything was possible as long as he put his fate and mind into it. Having fate in myself helps me a lot because by having fate, it means that I the power and fate to accomplish all my obstacles .

Blog # 7

In the article by Timothy Sexton "The Dangers of Reality of TV" he says that reality TV is sending the wrong message to people,I agree with Mr Sexton because i also think that Reality television has a big impact on people. It has changed many people around the world. Some are becoming rich and some are becoming poor, Instead of leaving in a "world of reality" people rather choose a "fantasy world" a world that is fake and full of lies.

In the article by Timothy sexto "The dangers of reality tv." He says that reality tv is sending the wrong message to the viewers by making us believe that the more people humiliate by acting stupid or in an ignorant way the more chances a person can have to become successful. The most dangerous message this shows are send to people who watch this shows is that education is not necessary. That's one of the reason why the television networks have created shows like survivor, jersey shore, the apprentice and many others. To make it easy for regular people to do stupid things and make fast money. In this cases "personality is more important then wisdom."

I can say that these shows influence people a lot. For example: one of my friends went and got a tattoo, got a haircut, just like the one that the situation from the show the jersey shore has. He was fascinated by this man. All my friend wanted to do is talk like him, dress like him, and mostly do everything that this man was doing in the show. When I told him that what he was doing is being a follower and not a leader, He got upset. all I was telling him is that if he wanted to pick up girls at the club or the bar, all he had to do is be himself, and to use his brain instead of doing all this crazy stuff that he was doing.

" Reality television " has become a huge success because the more viewers tune in to watch shows like "jersey shore" or "survivor" the more money the company will make from advertising companies. This is the main reason why they need people like "snooki" or have people eat bugs in "fear factor".
people that whatch this shows find it funny, interesting when a person in the show goes half naked and drunk into the ocean. That is one of the reasons why these Networks sing up this people for these shows, to have them look crazy and have them do stupid things and depending on the ratings from the show, make them "millionaires" without having to use theire brain or common sense or even worst without having to go to school.

The perfect world

Cristof creates what he considers a "perfect World" for truman to live "happily ever after"

1: How does Seahaven compare to your world in terms of family life, neighborhood life, work life, and leisure time?

Seahaven is more like a routine that Cristof has created for Truman. Is similar to the everyday life that I live.
Family life is the same routine everyday. Unless we have a situation where a family member is sick or something serious has happened, If that's the problem that my family member is facing then what we will do is take the person that is feeling ill to see a doctor to find out what is wrong. Apart from that if everything is fine then we just continue doing the same regular things that we do every single day like cook and clean.

Neighborhood life is similar. When I see my next door neighbor Edwin I will ask him how his doing or just say "hello how are you? then wish him to have a nice day, just like in the "the Truman show", when Truman tell his neighbors hello "In case that I don't see you ...good afternoon, good evening, and good night."

Work life is very similar I wake up at 5 in the morning everyday to shower and get ready to be at work at 7 in the morning to be ready to start my daily routine. Although I have different challenges everyday at work, but is pretty much the same routine.

Leisure time at times is different because I like doing things to enjoy my self when I'm not working. like going to the movies or going out to dinner with friends and family. Or Sometimes stay home and relax.

2: Would you choose to live in Cristof's world. why or why not?

I wouldn't like to live in Cristof's world because is a world full of lies. It is all made up. If I wanted to live under Cristof's world, it will mean that I will have to live under his rules, controlled by what he thinks is right and wrong for me. Just like the movie "the Truman show."
choosing to live in Cristof's world means that I won't have any rights to choose to become a doctor, a lawyer or become a parent. Nothing will be possible unless it is accepted by Cristof's.

Being able to decide on my own is a better option because it means that I'm going to be able to live and learn from my mistakes. If I make a Good or bad choice then it will be up to me! not Cristof's.

Is Truman a prisoner or performer of the show?

Is Truman a prisoner or Performer of the show?
I think he is a prisoner of the show because Truman lived a controlled live since he was a baby. When Cristof realized that Truman wanted to quit the show to lead a normal life.  Truman  was almost killed in the ocean when Cristof order the storm. As Isaiah explains in his response “Truman never got to choose if he wanted his life to be on national television. He was forced from birth.”

essay about "i know the truth , so don't bother me with facts"

I agree with Jeffrey Kluger when he states that people get manipulated by pictures and inflammatory quotes because I have seen this many times in life. When people at work spreads a rummor and the rest of the employees agree or believe these stories. After the truth has been told to them they dont want to change their opinion on how they view things. They rather stick to it their own beleives because they think that the rummor or lie is the truth.

Similar situations happen when a preacher or pastor at church says that people should do stuff that he strongly believes in, or someting thats was written in the bible. I have seen it over and over again . Some people instead of going to church to pray and thank god for giving us health and good life ,they rather listen to a preacher at a chruch tell them that they should give half of their salary or ten percent of what they make so they can be forgiven for the sins they have committed. while the preacher is trying to make people beleive all these things are true so that he can afford an expensive life style like nice cars and clothes from the people that gave these money for other purposes like helping homeless , hungry people . while the pastor travels in a fancy brand new bmw to go to church the beleivers that pay to listen to this man go to church by train or walking, and when you tell them that maybe this pastor might be a fraud they get upset and wont talk to you anymore because they think the person thats is telling then this things are going against their believes.

In my opinion i didn’t know people had to pay or give some of their hard earned money in order to be forgiven by God. these are things that some people constanly do.Instead of find out the real facts about the situation they beleive rummors and lies.

I know the truth, so don’t bother me with facts

I know the truth, so don’t bother me with facts
Significant idea: People are easily deceived by rumors and lies
Claim: People instead of seeing the real facts of the situation on their own .They rather base themselves with what other people show or say to them.
Reasons: we are easily manipulated by pictures and stories on the newspaper or magazines.
Thesis: I agree with Jeffrey Kluger in “I know the truth, so don’t bother me with facts “ because it doesn’t matter how much the real truth is out there  to be seen. As long as we choose to see it and believe it in our own way, then  nothing is going to change the way we think.
